Eminem has taken legal action against a former employee for leaking and selling his unreleased songs.
Josep Strange, who worked for the rapper from 2017 to 2021, now faces serious legal consequences. He allegedly sold more than 25 exclusive tracks belonging to the rap icon, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III.

The case first came to light when an employee at Eminem’s Detroit-based music studio reported suspected music theft to the FBI on January 16, 2025. According to the report, several unreleased Eminem tracks had surfaced online illegally.
Upon investigation, authorities identified over 25 exclusive songs belonging to the “Rap God” hitmaker. The leaked tracks matched files stored in Eminem’s studio hard drive, reinforcing suspicions of an internal breach.
The FBI then conducted further inquiries, leading them to Josep Strange, who previously served as a sound engineer at Ferndale Studio. Following a thorough collection of evidence, officials raided Strange’s residence on January 28, 2025, identifying him as the prime suspect in this high-profile case.

Eminem’s spokesperson, Dennis Dennehy, emphasized that the case is not just about legal violations but also represents a deep betrayal of the rapper’s creative integrity.
“A trusted employee causing such significant damage to Eminem’s artistic legacy cannot be overlooked. This breach has led to substantial financial losses for multiple creators and collaborators who have spent years building their careers,” Dennehy stated, as quoted by Variety on Friday, March 21, 2025.
The FBI continues to oversee the ongoing investigation to ensure copyright protection and safeguard Eminem’s musical legacy.
“We will take every necessary measure to protect Eminem’s work and will not relent in pursuing justice,” Dennehy concluded.
If convicted, Josep Strange could face up to 15 years in prison or a fine of $250,000 (approximately IDR 4.1 billion).
